5 Funny Siri videos

By jpistori

One of the biggest new features on the iPhone 4s is Siri. Siri is a speech-recognition “personal assistant”. This feature wasn’t actually “invented” by Apple, but it was highly improved by Apple. Before Apple bought Siri it was an App that you could download in the App Store for Free. In fact if you tried to use the application in October before the new iPhone 4s came out you would get a message stating “I’ve been replaced! The new Siri is even smarter and better-looking than me, and waiting for you on the iPhone 4S. I’ll be leaving for home Oct. 15th. Until then… how can I help you?”

RIP Steve Jobs

By jpistori

Steve Jobs has passed away today. It was only a little over a month ago that Jobs stepped down as CEO saying at the time, “I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.”

I am deeply saddened by his death. Every computer, phone, music device…almost everything technology in my life besides my TV and xbox is an Apple device. If Apple had said devices I would have them. He is an amazing visionary that all other big companies can only marvel at and then take a year to try to copy.

RIP…………..

The emergence of the single page website

By jpistori

With bandwidth becoming faster and cheaper the emergence of the single page website seemed inevitable. Gone are the days of Dialup or DSL. Back then you had to wait about 50 seconds for the weird annoying dial tone sounds to go through it’s process just to get online. It would take about 20 seconds to view an image of your little niece hugging her dog, as you watched line by line of the image slowly appearing. Never mind watching video on the internet.

Now we have broadband with download speeds up to 101 Mbps. People view full galleries of images all at once. Your favorite TV show or Movie is one click away and your streaming almost instantly. The possibilities of the internet nowadays seem endless.

While the speed of the internet has progressed, so has the technologies that create your websites. No more tables, table rows, columns. Now we use CSS, CSS3, XHTML, HTML5, and Javascript to name a few. And that’s just front-end code. Without these technologies websites such as Hulu, Facebook, or even YouTube could not exist.

jQuery Tutorial Animation: How to show and hide text.

By jpistori

What we will create.

This tutorial will go over a smooth and effective way to show or hide text with a slide-up and slide-down effect utilizing jQuery.

What is jQuery?

“jQuery is a fast and concise JavaScript Library that simplifies HTML document traversing, event handling, animating, and Ajax interactions for rapid web development. jQuery is designed to change the way that you write JavaScript.”

Okay, so what does that mean? Well to put it in laymen’s terms, you can use jQuery to create animations or functions without needing to code all the Javascript. Instead you can use a “JavaScript Query” and then use much simpler syntax to create an event.

Alright, lets get started! Feel free to download my source code below to help you follow along. Also, click on the preview function to see this code in action.

Google+ Review

By jpistori

On June 29th Google announced a new social network called Google+. Google+ is another social network platform set to battle Facebook. Taking on a giant like Facebook has proven to be a mountain that no one has been able to climb. Leaving big name websites such as Friendster and Myspace in the dust. But maybe Google is not trying to “compete” with Facebook. I have noticed since I became a member of Google+ that I am using so many more Google features than ever before. Sure I used Google search, Gmail, and floated around on YouTube, but with the newly designed top menu I find myself spending a lot of my “web surfing’ within the confines of Google owned sites. I think it’s because of the ease of the new menu or maybe I am just excited about this new site. I won’t know for a few months when I can asses my daily website habits after the “newness” has worn off. All I know right now is that Google is huge on my radar, and I have been inviting friends to the network daily, only adding to the hype.
